Cedar Incense Holder

Description

These incense holders are made from cedar wood sourced from the historic Nikkō Cedar Avenue, where the trees have stood for about 400 years. The surface is finished with natural beeswax to preserve the wood's texture and character.

Each incense holder is engraved with a different Japanese expression, each carrying its own meaning and wish.

Variants / Meaning of the engraving

安寧 – ANNEI

A wish for peace, tranquility, and a life in harmony. It expresses the hope that both the individual and the community may remain calm, safe, and peaceful.

幸せを願う – SHIAWASE O NEGAU

Meaning: “A wish for happiness.” It expresses a sincere hope for another's happiness, well-being, and a fulfilled life.

道 – MICHI

Meaning “the way” or “the path.” In Japanese culture, this refers not only to a physical road but also to one's life journey, personal development, purpose, and ongoing growth.

The character 道 appears in various traditional Japanese disciplines, including the tea ceremony, flower arranging, calligraphy, and martial arts. There, “the way” refers not only to mastering a technique but also to building character through practice, patience, and experience.

The engraving 道 carries the wish that everyone may continue to follow their own path in life, while always learning, growing, and developing.

Use and safety

The metal holder is designed so that the incense stick stands as vertically as possible, reducing the amount of ash that falls directly onto the cedar wood. Always place the incense holder on a non-flammable surface, such as ceramic, stone, glass, or metal. Do not use it near flammable materials or in areas with strong air currents.
