Papillon Artisan Perfumes is an independent British perfume house, founded by Liz Moores in 2014. What began as a personal fascination with the art of perfumery has grown into a brand whose creations are appreciated by perfume enthusiasts all over the world.
True to its artisanal roots, Papillon still operates entirely independently from its studio on the edge of England’s New Forest. Each fragrance is hand-blended, with Liz Moores and a small, dedicated team overseeing every aspect of the production process. This independence allows the house to retain complete creative control, whilst ensuring the craftsmanship that characterises the collection remains intact.
The ancient forests, folklore and unspoilt landscapes of the New Forest are a constant source of inspiration. Liz Moores
Liz Moores is the founder and perfumer behind Papillon Artisan Perfumes. Her journey into the world of scent began almost twenty years ago with the creation of her first perfume, Anubis, and a determined desire to master the art and craft of perfumery. After completing Alec Lawless’s Natural Perfumery course in 2007, she continued her development through years of independent research, experimentation and practical experience.
Inspired by literature, history, nature and folklore, Liz approaches perfumery as a form of storytelling. She often thinks in terms of colours, textures and places, weaving these impressions into compositions that gradually unfold on the skin. Although every fragrance begins with her own creative vision, she believes that its ultimate meaning is completed by the wearer, whose personal experiences and associations bring the story to life.
Living on the edge of the New Forest has profoundly shaped her artistic vision. Surrounded by ancient forests and landscapes steeped in myth and mystery, she feels a particular affinity for contrasts, unconventional beauty and the emotional power of scent. These influences have become signature elements of the Papillon style and contribute to perfumes that are both distinctive and memorable.
